Story, Rhythm and Life

Stories are a powerful thing. Everyone has a story, and most people like to tell their story! I am not necessarily one of those people. Most of you most likely don’t know my story. I grew up in a home where you did not share personal details outside of the family, so I am very guarded. But as I navigate life and learn to build an art business, I am becoming a little more vulnerable. I will tell you that my story has been changing dramatically in the last 2 years. I will say that I am learning to live the story Scott wrote.

As many of you may know I left my teaching job at Sisters Elementary school just over 2 years ago. Big step of faith, but at the time my husband had a very lucrative job. Yes, I did say at THE TIME. Just a little over a year ago, he was laid off. After 7 months of applying for jobs; around 10 a week, to which he only had 1 interview, we clearly hear from the LORD that he was to stop and write. WHAT?! Are you crazy, do I have that kind of faith? We will see.

This is all backstory to the real story I want to tell. Why I started making coloring books. The first step for Scott was to figure out how to publish. He already had his first book mostly done, that is HIS story and for another blog! He wanted to test the publishing platform. He suggested we do a coloring book. I already had the majority of the illustrations from my many years of teaching and drawing with kids, all we had to do was a little clean up, add the hearts and fun facts.

BOOK ONE

We published this one back in March. We have had many of you do reviews and make purchases, thank you! This really helps to drive the numbers on Amazon, so PLEASE keep them coming! The more friends we have that do this the more organic sales we will generate from random Amazon users, and we don’t need to advertise. Back to my story. We really felt like this was a direction we were to go. Scott started the editing process on his book, while I started drawings for the second coloring book. Thankfully during this time, I was also doing 2 residencies in local schools that helped to keep our bank account full. See my last blog for details on that!!!

BOOK TWO

After publishing the second coloring book, Scott was ready to put his book out there. Rhythm. Timing is everything. Scott was downloaded this book many years ago when we were still in California, he just never perused it, till now. How funny that we find ourselves in a position where we HAVE to live this book out. We have no choice, if we want to have a full life! In this season we are learning to trust, obey, hope, and wait…. Being, we are human BEINGS, there is no doing! We are to BE in His presence. Just BE. WOW is that hard. I want to ‘Fix it!” Move on, do something! But I cannot make anything happen! The more I try, the harder I fall. In the meantime, we will continue to try to live in rhythm with our creator. This is the challenge. If this is a challenge you would like to take on, get the book. It is a great book to use as a study in a group, or individually. But take note, sometimes when we dive into these kinds of topics, our life gets turned up and can be uncomfortable. But that builds character and closeness to God if we will allow it. All our books are available on Amazon. https://a.co/d/01htm5XG

The preschool coloring book is now available too! We would really appreciate reviews on any of our books, you don’t need to purchase them to review them, but it does help!!! Thanks for your support and I hope this story has encouraged you!

Thank you, Gloria! Life is a journey and I think we are meant to share it with others so they too can fly on those wings!

I’ve known Karen and Scott for years and served in ministry with them
Many years ago. I was so blessed when Scott asked me to read and critique
“ Rhythm “. I remember years back he had shared some of the ideas for this story with me during conversations. It was awesome to be able to have conversations with him and give home feedback on what is an awesome study in living in and with God. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to draw closer in love with The one true God of the Bible.
I have also seen numerous works of art from Karen and was able to see some of the artwork for her coloring books as she moved forward with the ideas for these stories. She is an amazing artist and has a heart for children and her love for God shines forth in all she does. I know you and your kids and grandkids will love what she has done.
